Piano for kids and teens in West Seattle, WA
FAQ's
Do you teach kids who have never played before? Absolutely! Starting kids off on their musical journey with piano is one of my very favorite things.

Can we meet before we enroll? Yes! Everyone starts with an intro lesson at the studio prior to enrolling.

Is 7 years old the earliest you will start a student in Piano Lab? No. Sometimes kids are ready earlier and in that case I will allow an earlier enrollment.

Are piano lessons worth it for a beginner? Yes! Foundation building of piano skills will carry students through their musical journey, whether they play piano for 10+ years or shift to another instrument.

Do I have to have a piano to start in class?
Not having practice instrument is likely to result in lack of development and decline of interest, so it is essential that students have daily access to a piano.

Where is your piano studio? Sweet Little Sounds piano studio is located just a few blocks from the Alaska Junction in West Seattle, in the lower level of the house.

How does piano class scheduling work? Scheduling is done via google forms, which are reset for every summer and every fall. When students join between enrollment periods, they are offered a specific time slot.

What happens if our schedule changes mid-year? When student schedules change mid-year I facilitate swaps whenever possible.

Why do you play theory games every class? Developing a strong musical foundation is extremely important, and part of that is examining concepts from many perspectives. Games, tactile learning, visual, and physical learning are all very helpful in developing strong musical foundation.

Do you offer in-home lessons? The studio at Sweet Little Sounds is packed with games, activities, and experiences, that would be impossible to pack in a car. I do offer family or friend group piano in situations where there are 4 students who want to learn during the same hour.

How quickly do kids learn piano? Every student is unique. It's really important to let students take their own speed, as interest, drive, and practice time will naturally fluctuate.

Do you do any professional development as a piano teacher? Yes, I attend a 5-day piano/music teachers conference every year. I love learning new strategies, philosophies, and getting all the new games as they hit the market!
